'Rationing to Rock 'n Roll Exhibition

Elvis has left the building . . .

. . . and so has Marilyn!

Both are on their way to Bridport Town Hall to become part of Bridport Heritage Forum's Exhibition 'Rationing to Rock 'n Roll', where visitors will be able to step back in time and take a trip through the 1950s.

Displays include a '50s kitchen with original 'fixtures and fitting and a 'hands on' experience of 'Childhood', with toys, books and TV programmes which will evoke many memories. Paul Atterbury will be visiting on Saturday August 19th to talk about BBC's 'Watch with Mother' children's programmes, and his connection with one of its stars - Andy Pandy! Visitors will be encouraged to bring their own childhood treasures to show and share with him.

'A Night Out' is another element of the display, and dancing, skiffle, rock and roll, cinema and eating out will feature, alongside fashions of the time from Theresa Weller's wonderful costume collection.

Food from a very different source will be available to sample.

Schooldays and the opening of Colfox school in 1956 will be highlighted in the exhibition, and visitors will be able to taste some of the iconic school puddings of the time…including tapioca or 'frog spawn' as it was better known!

As well as reflecting Bridport's connection with schooldays, there will be features on the town centre, focussing on the shops and businesses that lined the main streets and the street parties and celebrations that accompanied the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

The exhibition is free! and runs from Saturday August 5th to Sunday August 20th – 10.00 to 4.00.
