Three local good causes visited the Co-op on Sea Road North, Bridport, to celebrate the news that they have been awarded a total of £8,524 by Bridport Co-op from its Local Community Fund.

Every year Co-op stores select three good causes from a list of nominations by local people, who will benefit from goods sold there.

When Co-op Members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, 2p for every pound spent goes into their Co-op Membership account and Co-op gives the same to support community organisations and local causes.

For the period of 12 months ending in October this year, Bradpole Pre-school received £2,749.79, the Bridport Primary School Edible Garden project £3,107.21 and Allington Hillbillies £2,667.98

Allington Hillbillies

The Hillbillies will continue to run a variety of nature clubs next year, allowing parents and children to access the many benefits of being out in nature, to be creative and to learn new skills.

Additionally, they hope to reach out to fathers and sons and to families of all ethnicities as well as continuing to organise community events.

Bradpole Pre-school understand how important outside education is for all areas of development in early years. So the preschool are going to buy challenging, fun outside play equipment, including a climbing wall!

There are many more aspects to this project which they want to take forward - such as bringing in electricity, buying essential equipment, providing cooking workshops for the children, and paying the expenses / refreshments for weekend work parties with the school community.

The Bridport Co-op Member Pioneer Lesley Windsor, who liaises with the community to promote Co-op initiatives, said: "We have three more great causes to support this year but if you know of a cause that would benefit from Co-op member support look for the LCF application in May 2023."

Co-op Membership helps support Co-op's national charity partners and Local Community Fund causes. See www.coop.co.uk/membership.
