Co-op Bridport and Dorchester stores clubbed together to apply for a community donation grant of £300 to buy new kit for Bridport's Youth football under 8's team.

As Co-op member Pioneer I went to visit them at their training to find out what football meant to these very young players.

Thomas, Hayden and Monty explained that football for them made them feel happy, especially when they scored goals. But that was not the only thing, they learn skills such as foot control and passing the ball and working as a team.

I asked Hayden how he felt when he lost, he said: "You go home tired and sad, but then you come back to try again."

That great skill for life - perseverance.
