Cantamus advent concert

St Mary's Church, Netherbury

UNTIL Saturday 11th December

West Dorset chamber choir Cantamus will give an advent concert in Netherbury under the baton of their new musical director, Peter Nardone.

Peter has been working with the choir this season following the sudden death in July of previous director Martin Schellenberg. Peter is a professional conductor, singer and composer who has sung with the Monteverdi Choir, The King's Consort and The Tallis Scholars. He has been director of music at Chelmsford Cathedral and organist and director of music at Worcester Cathedral. He lives near Bridport.

The Advent programme is called 'O come, Emmanuel' and includes a range of beautiful seasonal music. It includes two of the Advent Antiphons – O Sapientia and O Emmanuel – by contemporary composer Bob Chilcott, gems from earlier writers such as Thomas Tallis (O Nata Lux) and William Byrd (Laetentur Coeli), and a 2019 piece by Peter Nardone, The Lord Will Come and Not Be Slow. There are also arrangements of traditional carols including The Linden Tree Carol, The Cherry Tree Carol and Angelus ad Virginem.

The concert takes place on Saturday, December 11 at St Mary's Church, Netherbury, at 7pm.

Tickets cost £10 on the door and refreshments will be available.
