West Dorset is doing incredibly well in delivering Covid vaccinations to residents in the area, with an army of volunteers and staff from a number of surgeries working at vaccination clinics.

It was time for those in the youngest cohort to receive their first Covid vaccine this week - those in their 20s and some younger - at Ammonite Bridport, formerly Bridport Medical Centre.

Volunteers from Bridport Coronavirus Community support wanted to take the opportunity to praise the young people for their friendliness, politeness and just how delightful they were.

They have been branded "role models", "charming" and "polite" with volunteers really pleased to be a part of the experience and "special vaccination clinic".

Here's what they had to say:

"I was amazed at how brilliant the young people coming through the clinic were. Polite, excited and very quick to say thank you."

"They were delightful and quick to thank everyone."

"I was on the corner, stopping the drivers and telling them where to go - in the nicest possible way! - and I really noticed that everyone, whether driving or in the passenger seat, made contact and was appreciative. They seemed so pleased to be there. A brilliant sample of our young locals."

"It was an exceptional clinic. A few local businesses had given their staff time off to come and they were winding down their windows to say hello and thanks and without fail they were charming and lovely with big smiles and laughter. Young people get a bad rap but actually they have been the role models."

"It was my first shift so I have no idea how polite anyone else has been. But I can honestly say I was very impressed with how polite the young people were. I was on the ramp going down to the marquee and absolutely every one of them listened to my directions and requests to sit for 15 mins. They all thanked me and not one of them questioned the need to sit for 15 mins and they all complied with doing so."

"Young people often get such a bad press but I was so impressed with them. Mostly cheerful unless they were nervous. We had one lad who was having a 21st birthday present he'd never forget - his first jab. Students who had travelled home from university when they got the texts. Some very nervous young people who were offered the opportunity to go to the front - not one took the opportunity. They were, without exception, polite. It was a really lovely session."

"What struck me was how polite everyone was. Some were clearly nervous. I was doing the hand sanitiser but not one grumble even when a bit of a queue developed. Many were surprised we were all volunteers. It's always lovely to be part of the team but it felt very special."

"Great to see so many getting jabbed and so many knew each other so were happily chatting across the waiting area to each other and seemed genuinely pleased to be there."

"It was great to see the young people so thrilled to be getting their vaccine. They have had such a dreadfully hard year, but they were all still smiling and behaving so well. They happily followed the clinic procedures and those able to sit in the sun after their jab seemed to be enjoying the occasion. It was a very pleasurable first shift for me."

"A couple of young lads came down the ramp on their way to the marquee and said to me, 'right, that's done, now where are the tea and biscuits?' I'd heard it loads of times from the older cohort but somehow coming from a couple of high-spirited teenagers, it made me laugh."

"One of the young girls leaving asked me to feedback just how wonderful, helpful and cheerful all the staff had been and how it had helped on a stressful day for her."

We want to say a thank you to everyone who is playing a part in making the vaccination clinics such a success.

It can be an emotional and nerve-wracking time for those attending to get their vaccines, so a big thank you for being so lovely and friendly.
