A boat washed up on Seatown beach sparked a coastguard response yesterday evening (Wednesday).

West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked by Solent Coastguard to reports of a sailing boat washed ashore under the cliffs to the west of Seatown just before 9pm.

Officers quickly responded to the station in West Bay to pick up their equipment and 4x4 vehicle and headed for Seatown.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "Once on scene and despite the fading light, officers confirmed that this was the same vessel that had been previously visited earlier in the week by officers on patrol.

"Solent Coastguard has been passed details and photographs of the vessel, and the receiver of wreck is aware.

"With no persons thought to be at risk and with no new updates from the police regarding missing persons or indeed a missing vessel, the officers stood down to return to station, pending further enquiries."
