The annual Boxing Day Swim at West Bay has been cancelled and people are urged not to do their own.

The event attracts hundreds of swimmers and thousands of spectators each year and organiser, Bridport Round Table, has announced it will not be going ahead.

A spokesman said: "It is with great sadness but with everyone's safety in mind, Bridport Round Table has taken the hard decision to cancel the Boxing Day Swim on the basis of maintaining social distancing - swimmers and crowds - will be near on impossible.

"Can we take this opportunity to ask that members of the public do not attempt to swim on Boxing Day without the event going on, your safety is very important.

"Bridport Round Table hope that 2021 will mean we can return to a year of amazing scheduled events, so please like our [Facebook] page for future updates and have a Merry Christmas and happy New Year."
