Bridport Youth and Community Centre is one step closer to its refurbishment with a brand-new carpet, thanks to a grant from the McCarthy Stone Foundation.

The grant of £900 and the support of its partners at English County Contracts and Carpets and Flooring, which supplied all materials free of charge and fitting at cost price, has enabled several thousand pounds worth of work to be achieved.

The youth centre managers were delighted to see the quality of the new carpet that was laid in the foyer and up the stairs.

The centre relies on lettings of its meeting rooms and sports hall to be able to maintain its income and run activities for the young people of Bridport.

They said: "It's important the venue is smart and appealing to our hirers."

But it was the children who really enthused about it when they arrived at the youth club session, and a group of nine-year-old girls were the first to spot it had changed.

Willow said: "It looks amazing, green is my favourite colour."

Amber added: "It's comfy to walk on."

The board of trustees at Bridport Youth and Community Centre is "very grateful to McCarthy and Stone for its generous support of the centre and its work for all ages in the community - from Little Buds of Wessex with the newborn babies, to the chair-based exercise group that includes people over 80".
