A concert dedicated to the Bride Valley and life in this area will be taking place in West Bay next month.

Douglas Northover, from Burton Bradstock, published many poems in celebration of the Bride Valley.

David Powell, who was headteacher at Burton Bradstock Primary School, has set some of the poems to music and has written many songs which capture the magic of this part of West Dorset. David has also recently created a blog which draws together these songs.

'Rough Assembly' will play these songs along with others which relate to the life of West Bay and Bridport and explores the life on the valley and the coast.

A spokesman said: "We are delighted to play in St John's Church at West Bay. It is recognised as a seaman's mission and its stained glass windows mark Bridport's trade with Newfoundland.

"Many people love this area of the country and we aim to entertain our audience in celebrating the landscape, people and life of this coastal community."

The concert, Bride Valley and Beyond, will take place on Sunday, July 25 at 7pm.

Tickets cost £8 and include a drink at half time. Profits will be shared between the West Bay Discovery Centre and St John's Church.

Tickets are available at Bridport Tourist Information centre at bridportandwestbay.co.uk at by visiting West Bay Discovery Centre.
