A Bridport care home has closed after it was rated 'Inadequate' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Drayton House in Allington closed on August 27 and all residents have been moved elsewhere.

The care home was inspected by CQC on May 25, 2021 and at the time had 13 people living there and followed an inspection in March 2021.

The inspector found that "the oversight of infection control processes regarding the Covid-19 pandemic had remained not effective" since the inspection two months previous and "there had been a significant lack of leadership at Drayton House and a lack of understanding about roles and responsibilities".

It was reported that the inspector "found no evidence that people had been harmed, however, systems were either not in place or robust enough to demonstrate safety was effectively managed. This placed people at risk of harm".

The inspector found that a reduction in staff levels in the afternoon increased the workload for staff. They said: "Staff told us they needed to rush to get everything completed. This meant people were not getting good quality care."

It was found that medicines continued to be safely managed and staff understood how to identify and report abuse and spoke with care about the people they supported.

The full repot can be found here.

A spokesman for Dorset Council, which was supporting the care home, said: "Following a CQC inspection and further meetings between Dorset Council, the home and CQC, the home owners chose to close the setting.

"As a result, Dorset Council worked with the manager of the home to ensure the safety of residents was upheld at all times whilst we supported them into alternative accommodation and we can confirm that all residents have now safely moved."
