Explore Bridport Museum for free during this year's Heritage Open Days
Discover Bridport's unique and fascinating history for free as a celebration of England's heritage takes place this September.
Bridport Museum is taking part in this year's Heritage Open Days and entry to the museum will be free from Thursday, September 16 to Saturday, September 18.
Founded in 1932, Bridport Museum is housed in a building known as 'The Castle'. The façade of the building goes back to Tudor times and you can still see some original features, such as an angel corbel upstairs.
The museum's collections and displays celebrate the town's unique heritage - 180 million years of rocks and fossils, 2,000 years of people and 800 years of rope and net making.
At certain times there will be live ropemaking demonstrations, and there is a children's trail available at all times.
Visitors are also encouraged to visit Bridport Town Hall, which includes murals and paintings by the artist Fra Newbery. More information is available at Bridport Tourist Information Centre.
