Thousands of residents and visitors filled the town over the weekend as Bridport Carnival and the much-loved torchlight procession returned.

After being cancelled for the last two years due to Covid, people were pleased to get back out again and enjoy the events.

Groups, charities, businesses, bands, majorettes and more took part in the carnival procession from West Street, down South Street to Morrisons on Saturday, while people lined the streets.

The carnival winners were:

  • Best overall, best local and most innovative - 1st Bridport Scout Group
  • Best costumes - Sunshine Stars CC as Ghostbusters
  • Class one: feature open mounted - Washingpool Farm with the Coronation Street Party
  • Class three: youth entry - 1st Bridport Scout Group with scouting
  • Class four: walking one to three people - Roger Muspratt as the Mad Hatter
  • Class five: walking four or more people - Living Tree and Stepping Out with 10 years of cancer support
  • Class six: walking, wheeled or motorised - Sunshine Stars CC as Ghostbusters

This was followed by the torchlight procession, and incredible sight of thousands of people walking from Bucky Doo Square to West Bay with burning torches and glow sticks.

Crowds finished off the evening enjoying a fireworks display over the sea.
