Eype Centre for the Arts will soon be hosting an album launch and concert.

Variations for piano and sitar was recorded over three days at The Music Room in Dorset by Andrew Goldberg and Ricky Romain.

A spokesman for the launch said: "The works naturally and simply developed through improvisation based on traditional Indian classical themes and moods, sing electronic percussion arranged partly like a monkey drum, the Pakhavaj.

"Goldberg took on the role of engineering and producer for the album and the final mastering process is now in the hands of writer-musician, producer and ton Meister John Robertson.

"The artistic relationship was absolutely inspiring and quite extraordinary. Goldberg and Romain share similar ethical backgrounds and instantly found comfort and common ground as composers, performers and most importantly, as friends."

The pair are also working with filmmaker, photographer and art director Robert Golden on image, album cover art and the forthcoming filming of their premiere recital and album launch on October 22 at Eype Centre for the Arts at 7.30pm.

The event is in being organised in collaboration with Grace Gillian, who was the one who initially suggested that the musicians must contact each other - so they did.

Sam Richards, musicologist and former lecturer at Plymouth University, said: "Sitar player Ricky Romain and pianist Andrew Goldberg make extraordinarily robust but sensitive music in creating a fusion between the fluid intonation of Indian classical music with more fixed and tempered sounds of the European piano.

"It is a path that some others have trodden, although, it all truth, it has to be approached with respect and taste.

"Having heard some of their recordings it is clear that they have these qualities in abundance."

Tickets are available from Bridport Tourist Information Centre.
