Bridport Carnival's royal party have been officially crowned, starting a week of special events in the town.

Carnival princess Millie Frampton, age 13, and attendants Delilah Rayner, 11, and Ava Hook, 9, were crowned by the Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Dave Bolwell, on Sunday.

They were presented with tiaras, flower posies and cash prizes after being chosen to represent Bridport at a competition in July.

The crowning took place at a teddy bear's picnic organised by Bridport Carnival at Millennium Green, which was well supported by local organisations and residents.

It was one of the first in a week of carnival events, which will culminate with the annual carnival procession on Saturday, August 19 – expected to attract more entries than seen in recent years – and the torchlight procession on Sunday, August 20 followed by fireworks in West Bay.

Opening events have also included a well-supported darts tournament at Bridport Football Club, with The Gobshites winning the men's competition and the Pole Darters winning for the ladies.
