Bridport should be proud as it leads the way with its approach to sustainable energy.

Not only is Bridport Cohousing - the development currently being built next to Bridport Community Housing - the largest cohousing project in the UK to date, but it is also the largest housing development with a microgrid, assuming nothing larger is completed between now and its completion.

Hazelmead will be a community of 53 homes and a common house with 210kW solar power.

The microgrid system is being built by CEPRO and grant funded by Low Cardon Dorset.

A spokesman for Bridport Cohousing said: "This is amazing for Bridport - we are buzzing the way forward for sustainable and affordable housing in the whole country."

Bridport Cohousing has launched a campaign to raise money for its common house. Find out more here.
