The Mayor of Bridport recently paid a visit to Bridport Community Kitchen – one of his two chosen charities for the year.

The Community Kitchen, based at the Beacon Church in Priory Lanem is held every Wednesday and Friday and shortly they will be reintroducing Thursdays to meet increased demand during the colder months.

They offer free homemade soup, meals, tea/coffee and cakes in a warm and safe environment, with an opportunity to chat and try some craft activities.

The kitchen is now helping more people than ever, providing around 60 meals a week for those who are in need of support. Volunteers are gearing up for the autumn and winter demands and are currently out of stock of tents that they provide to give temporary shelter to homeless people who visit the kitchen.

The kitchen is in constant contact with homeless charity Julian's House, which also offers support, so that no one falls off the radar.

Anyone with a one or two person tent in good condition that they are able to donate can contact the Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Dave Bolwell, or Simon Batorski at the Community Kitchen.

The kitchen relies on grants and donations and is staffed entirely by volunteers.
