Bridport Fire Station is urging people to sign up as on-call firefighters after responding to a fire that would have been attended by Beaminster crews.

A fire engine from Bridport and another from Crewkerne were called to a fire in a home in Broadwindsor just before 2pm yesterday (Tuesday).

It was an accidental fire caused by a clothes basket being left on the top of the oven. Thankfully, the owner was in and managed to extinguish the fire.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "This week, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting the National Fire Chiefs Council on-call recruitment campaign.

"Beaminster Fire Station, which would normally cover Broadwindsor, is currently looking for new applicants. If you're interested, want a new challenge and want to help serve your community, follow this link.

"You could be that person who makes a difference and gets an appliance 'on the run'."
