It's a busy time for the Bridport Tree Planting group, which has had to get more saplings to cope with demand.

Ten volunteers turned out on Saturday morning to hack away 30 metres of brambles on Masker Meadows, making room for 60 more trees to be planted.

The job was done in a little more than an hour, thanks to snippers, loppers, hand axes and a bill hook, all used in a socially distanced way.

The new trees will be planted soon, alongside Sea Road South.

It's part of a busy time for the group, with other plantings of 40 trees at St Catherine's Primary School and 40 more at Bridport Millennium Green. A possible 30 saplings are to be installed in Bothenhampton and more at Burton Bradstock before the end of March.

Joe Hackett, co-ordinator for Bridport Tree Planting, said: "We've had to buy in more saplings to cope with demand but we may have some left at the close of the month, in which case we'll have an 'end of season' limited giveaway at our community nursery in Riverside Gardens."
