A Bridport ice cream company has made it into the product finals of the Taste of the West awards.

Baboo Gelato, which is locally made in Salway Ash and served at its kiosks in West Bay, Lyme Regis, Weymouth and at Felicity's Farm Shop in Morcombelake wow judges with its salted caramel gelato, which is in the running for champion product winner.

A number of its products have already won awards in the 2020 Taste of the West awards. Gold awards have been given to its double chocolate gelato, salted caramel gelato, strawberry gelato, elderflower sorbet and crystal malt gelato with its blackcurrant ripple gelato gaining a silver award.

Clipper Teas in Beaminster also joins Baboo Gelato as a finalist with its peppermint tea bags and fairtrade everyday envelopes, both of which have also gained gold awards.

The champion product winners will be announced during the week commencing November 2.

Other award winners include Palmers Brewery, which received gold awards for its whiskey, Palmers IPA, Tally Ho! And ginger beer, silver for Dorset Orchards Orchard Haze and commended for Palmers 200, Dorset Orchards First Press and lemonade.

Cherry Tree UK Ltd also picked up a number of awards. Its gin and tonic curd and orange and whiskey marmalade got gold, its strawberry rhubarb and vanilla jam, cherry and amaretto jam and lemon and lime curd were awarded silver and its horseradish sauce, real ale chutney, strawberry jam with champagne and lemon curd were all commended.

Local Food Links was awarded gold for its smokey sausage and bean cassoulet served with sunshine rice ready meal, as was Curious Kombucha for its raspberry and turmeric kombucha.

Bayside Bakery's toasted hazelnut praline brownie received a gold award and a silver rating was given to its chocolate orange brownie delight.
