Dorset Community Energy is looking to support projects that aim to reduce carbon emissions or address fuel poverty through its community fund.
The Dorset Community Energy Fund is open for applications until April 25 and projects eligible may also include local food, sustainable transport or waste reduction, and any other activity which reduces carbon emissions. The project must be based in Dorset.
The application must be on behalf of a community, self-help or voluntary group, a community enterprise or a charity. Applications should be in the range of £500 to £1,500. Find more information here.
Dorset Community Energy is not-for-profit and facilitates community ownership of renewable energy production. It was established in 2013 and has more than 150 members, who have invested £490,000 in Dorset Community Energy. This has enabled the installation of solar photovoltaic panels on 12 schools and four community buildings.
Electricity is provided to the community buildings at zero or low cost and any electricity not used on site is exported to the national electricity grid. Revenue is generated from the sale of electricity and from the Government's feed in tariff, which covers operational costs and provides a return on investment to member shareholders.
Dorset Community Energy launched the first Energy Local Club in England by creating Energy Local Bridport, which went live in September 2021. It allows householders in the area to purchase electricity generated from the 50kW wind turbine at Salway Ash. Find more information about this here.
