A member of Bridport charity, The Living Tree, has completed a 70-mile Isle of Wight coastal loop for Bowel Cancer UK.

Martyn Allen embarked on the charity's seven-day challenge last month (9th to 16th July) following his own battle with bowel cancer.

Martyn issued a thank you to everyone who supported the walk - which has raised £2,500.

He told Nub News about the experience, saying: "I took the Lymington ferry to Yarmouth and walked clockwise each day. I stayed in a shepherd's hut at a campsite in the central part of the island and drove to the planned end point for each walk. I then took the bus (or busses) to the start and walked to the car, and then headed back to the campsite.

"I found the IOW interesting, and the route was a mix of beautiful coastal views interspersed by dodgy road sections and crumbling cliffs. The weather was very hot and also humid which made the longer walks (13 and 14 miles) quite challenging.

"On the last walk, I treated myself to a short boat trip around The Needles and could see the white cliffs of Dorset's Old Harry Rocks in the distance. I also met up with some fellow Living Tree members who were on the island, and we all went for a lovely invigorating dip in the sea.

"I would like to thank everyone who supported and encouraged me on this challenge. Together we have raised £2,500 for BowelCancerUK, which is fantastic."

It is not too late to donate - the JustGiving page will be open until the end of the year.
