It is going to take "several weeks" to get cash payments in Dorset car parks up and running again.

Drivers have been unable to pay for car parking using cash for a few days and are now being asked by Dorset Council to use cashless payments due to ongoing disruption to many ticket machines.

If a machine is currently is currently unable to accept cash payments, drivers will still need to pay for parking. This includes with downloading the Just Park app on your smartphone or paying by mobile phone. Those without smartphones are being asked to register with Just Park online at home and pay by text message in the car park. Some car parks offer card payments, which can be checked in advance here.

Councillor Ray Bryan, Dorset Council's portfolio holder for highways, travel and environment, said: "We're sorry for this disruption. This is very much a temporary measure and we are working hard to reinstate cash payments, which we know is the preferred option for many of our residents.

"Please be prepared to use a cashless method of payment while we work through this issue, it's going to take several weeks to get cash payments operating again."

It's hoped that cash payments will be available again in all car parks by early December.
