Bridport resident's revised 'Creatures of the Deep' on shelves now - and he's also working on a new book

Incredible photos of the sea's 'monsters' feature in a new revised version of a Bridport resident's book.

Erich Hoyt has released a revised edition of his Creatures of the Deep, for the first time in paperback from Firefly Books, a North American publisher. It documents the 'search of the sea's monsters and the world they live in'.

He is also currently writing a new book called Planktonia, Creatures of the Night, which is due to be published in the autumn. The creatures in this book are flamboyant and odd and most of them are no more than an inch long.

Mr Hoyt is a Canadian-US dual citizen, who has been in the UK since 1989. Over the years his fascination with whales and the deep sea has led to expeditions to more than 50 countries.

He is a research fellow for Whale and Dolphin Conservation with headquarters in Chippenham and co-chairman of the IUCN Marine Mammal Protected Areas Task Force. Twenty years ago he co-founded and still directs the Far East Russia Orca Project, which works with Russian Scientists on several species of whales in Kamchatka and the Commander Islands.

Among his 24 published books, besides Creatures of the Deep, are Strange Sea Creatures, Orca: The Whale Called Killer, Encyclopaedia of Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises, and Weird Sea Creatures.
