Bridport Primary School is successfully succeeding in embedding children's rights into its policy, practice and ethos.
The school has been working hard to raise awareness of the UNICEF Rights of the Child and has been awarded silver Rights Respecting School status.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is the basis of all UNICEF's work.
The Convention has 54 articles that cover all aspects of a child's life and set out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights that all children everywhere are entitled to. It also explains how adults and governments must work together to make sure all children can enjoy all their rights.
Every child has rights, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status.
This work has been done through specific lessons, assemblies and events and is lived on the day-to-day life of the school.
The school also has Rights Respecting Ambassadors who help make decisions and represent children, giving them a voice.
Headteacher Michaela Kite said: "We are very proud to have been awarded silver but the work does not stop here.
"Learning about rights is so very important for many reasons; it supports us in understanding how to relate to each other, including our work on antibullying and antiracism."
Bridport Primary School looks forward to continuing this work alongside the Sir John Colfox Academy, which has achieved gold accreditation, and the rest of the Minerva Learning Trust and Bridport as a Rights Respecting Town.
