Students at the Sir John Colfox Academy have staged a "fantastic production" of Roald Dahl's Matilda.

Due to popularity, two different casts presented a junior version of the musical, the story of a gifted girl forced to put up with crude, distant parents and an evil principal, but she starts to fight back and teach the adults a lesson.

Adam Shelley, headteacher at the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: "It was a fantastic production and everyone enjoyed it immensely. It was great to see so much talent on show, congratulations to all our performers and back stage team.

"I think for all of us the show marked a very welcome and joyous return to normality, although it was of course performed with Covid precautions in place.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to all staff who made such a fantastic event possible, especially Mrs Holder, head of drama, Miss Glover, drama and performing arts teacher, and Mr Hocking, head of music."

The production highlighted the amazing performances from talented students in years 7 to sixth form.

Emma Holder, head of drama, said: "I was so proud, everyone was brilliant. We had two casts this year as we had so many amazing auditions and so much talent that we didn't want anyone to miss out.

"All the students involved worked very hard during rehearsals and at home, learning limes, dance routines, the music and the songs. Fantastic work was also done by our back stage team and everyone who worked on the sets and the costumes. Each and every person involved should be very proud of the hard work they put into creating such a wonderful production."
