Bridport charity Tax Volunteers, operating under the name Tax Help for Older People, has been awarded £25,000 in funding from the Postcode Lottery.
The grant was made to support the work of Tax Help, which supports vulnerable older people who face tax problems, but who are unable to afford paid tax help.
The funding will go towards the charity's national helpline service. Primarily, the charity helps people over 60 with tax problems that arise from pension issues, but they also receive calls from people with health problems, mental illness, or who are dealing with devastating tax issues resulting from the loss of a loved one.
Valerie Boggs, CEO of Tax Help for Older People, said: "We are honoured to receive this support from the Postcode lottery. It will go a long way in helping us support those in need. We often hear from people who have a tax debt that they do not understand, that plays on their minds, keeping them awake at night, but who have no idea what to do next or where to turn.
"Our service is here for those people, completely free and confidential tax advice to anyone who cannot afford paid support, that is the aim of our charity."
If you or a loved one are in trouble with your tax, cannot afford paid tax advice and do not know where to turn you can reach out to Tax Help on their helpline and call 01308 488066.
They are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. If you are under 60 and need help, you can also reach out to their sister charity TaxAid on 0345 120 3779
