Bridport walk of the month: Bothenhampton

By Lottie Welch

With the winter weather coming in, we have decided to change the walk of the week to walk of the month.

Each first Friday of the month we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

This month's walk is a 1.9-mile route around Bothenhampton, taking around one hour. There are some very steep inclines and declines during this walk.

Start at the Jellyfields Nature Reserve entrance on Lower Walditch Lane. Facing it, turn right to walk towards to mini roundabout. Go straight over the roundabout and turn left onto Crock Lane.

Keep going along Crock Lane until you reach Green Lane on your left, just after Slades Green, and turn left up there. The path becomes a track and continue straight past farm buildings and the path becomes narrower, going between trees.

Continue along this path as it turns left to go uphill. It is very steep and slippery when wet. Keep going until you get to the top of the hill and turn left towards a small concrete bench. Follow this path as it goes downhill.

Stay on this path, going past others on your left, and it will come out to a stile before taking you down a steep hill behind houses on Crock Lane.

Follow the path down to a stile and follow the path back to Crock Lane. Turn right to go back to Lower Walditch Lane and the beginning.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
