Bridport walk of the week: Little loop around Happy Island

29th Jul 2021 | Local News

We have introduced a walk of the week for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy over the weekend.

Each Friday we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

This week's walk is a two-mile loop taking in Bradpole and Happy Island and takes around an hour.

Start on Lee Lane at its turning with the A35 and walk down the lane past Jessopp Avenue. Go over the bridge and just after the 30 sign, go down the footpath on the left and through the wooden gate.

Where the path meets another, turn left, following the sign to Bridport. Where the path opens up and meets Happy Island, you can continue following the pavement or walk alongside by the river. Follow the river or path to the other end of Happy Island to come out on to Jessopp Avenue. Cross the road and go down the footpath opposite.

Cross over the bridge and go over the metal stile on your right. Go through the kissing gate and continue straight before the path comes out onto a road. Cross the road and go down Asker Mead, turning left just before the right hand bend to Crock Lane.

Continue straight at the mini roundabout and walk along Lower Walditch Lane. Turn left into the cemetery and walk through there to the other end where the path will come out onto the A35. Turn right and you will arrive back to the start.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
