Concerns were raised for a missing paraglider pilot after reports of a paramotor in the sea.

West Bay Coastguard officers were alerted by Solent Coastguard to the harness and engine part of a paraglider between Hive Beach and Burton Mere, near Cogden Beach, yesterday (Thursday) just after 4pm.

A general broadcast was issued by Solent Coastguard asking local vessels and the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) Station at Burton Bradstock to report any sightings and the West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to investigate.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "A binocular search of the of sea was made between Burton Mere and Hive Beach with no evidence of any persons in distress.

"Local vessels and the NCI station reported no sightings of concern.

"Rescue officers spoke with members of the public at both Hive Beach and Cogden Beach, as well as checking parked vehicles in both car parks for the cars of pilots known to frequent the area.

"With no further 999 calls, reported sightings or evidence of persons in distress, the team was stood down and the incident logged as a false alarm with good intent."
