Registration for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance's Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge has been delayed.

Spaces for the popular fundraising event usually sell-out within days.

A spokesman for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance said: "Our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge is scheduled to take place on May 16, 2021.

"In previous years, online registration has taken place during December. However, with the current Covid-19 pandemic restrictions in place, we have decided to delay online registration until February."

The event, which is not a race, involves a challenging 55-mile scenic cycle ride from Watchet Harbour in Somerset to West Bay, or an 11-mile ride from Drimpton, also finishing in West Bay.

It is renowned for being an emotional and inspiring day for everyone involved and many cyclists include patients who have experienced the work of the air ambulance first hand and those who take part in memory of a loved one.

Others get involved as part of a team or simply want to challenge themselves and support the charity in return. Participation is restricted to 600 cyclists.

It is Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance's only fundraising event and last year raised more than £54,000.
