Dredging works will start at West Bay harbour tomorrow (Tuesday, May 17).

Dredging is essential maintenance and ensures safe, navigable channels are maintained in the harbours.

Works will continue until Wednesday, June 1. There will be little impact on the public, with only a small section of West Cliff beach closed during this time.

The original date for dredging works – June 6 to July 1 – have been changed and swapped with Lyme Regis Harbour as to not impact on the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Lyme Regis. Works in Lyme Regis will now take place from June 6 to June 24.

Works are heavily dependent on weather conditions and there may be some delays if they are impacted by bad weather.

Councillor Ray Bryan, portfolio holder for highways, travel and environment, said: "Our harbours are a vital resource for Dorset residents and businesses – as well as a major attraction for visitors – so it's important that they are well looked after.

"Dredging is a key part of our maintenance programme and these works will ensure our harbours remain safe and accessible for all who use them."
