A plea has been made for more litter bins at West Bay.

The Bridport (West Bay) Harbour Consultative Group claims that without extra units the problems caused by seagulls and, more recently, with rats is likely to increase.

Chairman Simon Miles told Dorset Council's Harbours Committee that most of his members believed there was not enough bins and that more frequent emptying was also needed – ideally to be put in place before the start of the main holiday season.

He also told the meeting that many felt the West Bay area was "looking tired and tatty around the edges", but that with a little bit of thought and limited action could be improved.

He suggested replacing orange bollards around the kiosks with planters, providing more picnic tables for the greens, and freshening up signage on the pontoons.

Councillors were also told that West Bay was also keen to run a similar water safety scheme, already being operated in Lyme Regis,
