A wonderful tribute to Remembrance Day and those who lost their lives at war has been put in Walditch churchyard.

More than 100 stones and pebbles marking Armistice Day have been laid down on the grass from St Mary's Church gate up to the church doors.

The Rev'd Ann Ayling of St Mary's Church in Walditch, said: "I got the idea from a friend in Devon and thought it would be very nice to have pebbles leading from the church door down to the gate of the church, which people in the village and people from other churches could decorate.

"We used that as our tribute on Remembrance Sunday.

"There are on 106 stones, pebbles and a slate and people have drawn poppies on them, put messages on them and some of them have drawn a soldier on them.

"They are all very imaginative and creative and people in the village did some, the Bothenhampton Brownies contributed quite a lot and people from other churches as well."

The stones have received a great response and there are hopes it will happen again next year.

The Rev'd Ann Ayling added: "It's been really good.

"On Sunday I took a little prayer service in the churchyard and a lot of people have been coming up during the week to have a look at them.

"Somebody asked me on Sunday, 'now that we have done this once, can we do it again?'

"Thank you to everybody who was involved with it, they were all enthusiastic. Everyone put in such a lot of work and they were so imaginative."
