Humorous Christmas cards help raise money for refuge family in Bridport - who should be arriving in January
Humorous Christmas cards will help raise money to support a refugee family in Bridport - who will be arriving in the town in January.
Local artist Claudio Muñoz has kindly designed this year's Christmas card for the Bridport Refugee Support Campaign.
Margie Barbour, one of the trustees, said: "We want to thank him for his beautiful, heart-warming and humorous take on the Christmas story.
"The card celebrates the generosity of the people of Bridport and their powerful sense of community, revealed in its title 'Room at the Inn'."
The cards cost £4 for five and are on sale in Fruits of the Earth, Leakers, Waste Not Want Not and Bridport Tourist Information Centre. The committee is very grateful to these businesses for selling the cards.
Claudio Muñoz's drawings have appeared in most major newspapers and magazines, including The Economist for more than 20 years, as well as in more than 30 children's books.
He was born in southern Chile in 1947 and moved to the UK in 1978 to marry and work as an illustrator. He still does a weekly editorial cartoon which can be seen - courtesy of Rosie Young and Caroline Murdock, in the window of Bridport Old Books in Bucky Doo Square and on Instagram.
The trustees have heard that the refugee family will be arriving in January, but don't know yet where they will come from, who they will be or the ages of any children. The Home Office will make the decision.
Generous local landlords have offered their flat to be rented for the family, which the committee are now preparing. As it is unfurnished, they are busy finding beds, cupboards, sofas, chests of drawers, bed linen, cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery needed to help the family settle into their new home.
