The first illuminated flotilla on the Thames for over 300 years - and Bridport Gig Rowing Club was part of the historic event.
The club based at West Bay said they were "honoured" to participate in the event on Saturday (24th) organised by Thames Alive.
Originally designed as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations the decision was made to continue with the event as a fleet of reflection. With over 150 other boats decorated in glistening white lights, the oared part procession was led by the illuminated Queens Row Barge Gloriana. The Thames was transformed into a river of light; a moving work of art.
Made even more memorable by the colourful illumination of the iconic London bridges and buildings. The bridges and banks were lined with spectators who cheered their encouragement as the boats glided by. The highlight was Tower Bridge which opened in salute and looked spectacular bathed in purple light, to commemorate the Queen.
Reflections is thought to be first illuminated flotilla on the Thames for over 300 years. The flotilla also aimed to raise funds for the RNLI, with the money going towards a new lifeboat station on the Thames, at Waterloo.
Eight members of BGRC manned 'Bathsheba'. She was coxed by Peter Slimon and rowed by Tom Jones, Cat Macphee, Robbie McElhinney, Lesley Tibballs, Simon Crafter, Michelle Sage, and Andrew Crawford.
Robbie McElhinney commented: "It was a real honour for Bathsheba and her crew to take part in such a spectacular and moving event."
Tom Jones added: "It was a unique event. An honour to participate in such a beautiful and moving row."
