The ice cream shelter always known locally as 'Margaret's kiosk' has officially been named that to honour Margaret and her late husband John.

Sarah and Simon Forsey, who now own the kiosk on the esplanade in West Bay, felt it was the best way to pay tribute to Margaret for all the years that she was part of West Bay life.

Margaret and John Grundell served tea and coffee from the kiosk for around 50 years, getting to know almost everyone who passed through West Bay. They decided to put it up for sale in 2016.

Sarah and Simon took over the kiosk in December 2017 but Margaret and John continued to work there until the following winter.

Sarah said: "We became very close to them both over the time that we worked with them and are still regularly in touch with Margaret now.

"When we realised that it didn't have a proper name – the postal address is Wall's Ice Cream Kiosk – we knew that it had to be called Margaret's. Margaret's is what all of us locals have grown up calling it and I love the idea of my children still calling it that when they are my age.

"Anytime I have to explain which kiosk we have, as soon as they realise which one it is, they say, 'oh, Margaret's one'."

Sadly, Margaret's husband John died earlier this year.

Sarah added: "Margaret and John were a West Bay institution and we wanted to honour that.

"We have been waiting for the council to do the painting before we had the new signs installed. We are really pleased with how good it looks now. It's not quite finished as the front shutter still needs finishing but we have been blown away by all the lovely comments.

"I grew up around here and as a child my family used to visit West Bay on a Sunday afternoon and I always used to get an ice cream from the kiosk."

The painting was done by C G Fry and the signs were made and installed by Creative Solutions.
