Coronavirus cases across Dorset, although nationally there is an increase and residents must remain vigilant.

Public Health Dorset reports there are 14 confirmed cases in the last seven days in the Dorset Council area, compared to 19 on May 28, and 34 in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council area, compared to 29 on May 28.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 of the population in the Dorset Council area is 3.7, compared to 5 on May 28, and 8.6 in the BCP Council area, compared to 7.3 on May 28.

There are currently four Covid-19 patients in hospital beds in Dorset, compared to five on May 28.

A spokesman for Public Health Dorset said: "Case rates remain low in the Dorset Council and BCP Council areas this week. However, nationally we are seeing cases start to increase so we must remain vigilant to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Dorset. The best way to protect yourself and others is to continue to follow the rules on hands, face, space and fresh air, do twice weekly rapid tests and get both doses of the vaccine when it's offered to you.

"Routine testing is really important when cases are low. If everyone takes part in regular rapid testing, we can find and isolate cases in people without symptoms, preventing them from unknowingly spreading the virus.

"As restrictions have been eased and we start to socialise more with others, regular testing helps protect your friends, family and everyone you come into contact with in your day to day life. If you've been vaccinated, you should do regular testing as there's a chance you could still catch and spread Covid-19.

"If you develop any symptoms of Covid-19, don't use a rapid lateral flow test. Book a PCR test online or by calling 119 and self-isolate with your household whilst you wait for the result. You should do this even if you develop mild symptoms - a new, continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss or change in your sense of taste or smell."
