The lack of lighting on a busy Bridport roundabout has been resolved following intervention by West Dorset MP Chris Loder.

Street lights at the A35 East Round roundabout, near the Esso garage, have not been switched on for several months as a result of processing issues within the road contractor's energy company, that has meant power to the roundabout was cut off.

Conservative MP Chris Loder intervened in the situation, demanding that the energy company "sort themselves out" and reconnect the lights for the safety of motorists and pedestrians in Bridport.

He said: "I have been in regular contact with National Highways through my A Roads Taskforce, which has already secured several major improvements along the A35 and with further progress with resurfacing to the East and West of Bridport A35 due in the next few weeks.

"Since I was made aware of the issue on the East Road roundabout, I immediately tracked down the energy company and demanded a full resolution at once.

"I also urged them to ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians on this busy road must never compromised in this way again and I was pleased that the energy company has now amended its internal policies to ensure facilities such as street lighting and safety-critical infrastructure is not affected by such issues again."
