More than 30 years in business, three coastal restaurants and a lot to offer - meet the Hive Beach Company

Bridport and Dorchester Nub News is delighted to welcome The Hive Beach Company as a sponsor.

Overseeing Hive Beach Café in Burton Bradstock, The Watch House Café in West Bay and The Club House in West Bexington and run by Steve and Debbie Attrill, the company will be the main sponsor on our increasingly popular What's On pages.

Hive Beach Café

The popular beach front café celebrated 30 years in 2021, over which it has had to adapt many times, making it through foot and mouth, tornadoes and more, with Covid being the most challenging time.

But it adapted again, offering takeaways and introducing a booking system, as well as keeping covid measures in place.

It has played host to a number of fundraisers for Macmillan, Weldmar, and the Alzheimer's Society to name but a few, works closely with the National Trust and shows its support for Burton Bradstock volunteers with a free Christmas dinner each year.

The café was really put on the map after renowned Sunday Times critic A. A. Gill wrote a food review, giving it four stars. Since then it is always a popular spot for locals, visitors and celebrities.

The Hive has two books - The Hive Beach Cook Book and The Hive Beach Family Cook Book - with another in the works to mark 30 years of the café.

The Watch House

The only café on the beach in West Bay also marked a milestone birthday last year - its 10th anniversary.

They bought it as "it would be silly not to" and it has since appeared in ITV's Broadchurch series. It features a wood-fired pizza oven and has recently started doing bottomless brunch, Sunday breakfast deals and has a fossil shop.

Much like the Hive, it has hosted fundraisers, such as charity nights to raise money for the youth centre and a former chef's son who had a very rare condition.

It - along with Hive Beach Café and The Watch House - also offers 10 per cent discount to those in the 999 services, which started as it is two miles from Bridport Fire Station, so the crew can enjoy food and drinks there and get back to the station in time if there is a call out.

The Club House

Saved from the risk of being demolished and turned into a house, The Club House has an enviable location on the coast at West Bexington. Steve and Debbie have saved it and taken it back with 1920s, 30s and 50s items and décor.

From Sunday lunch deals and a moules frites evening, to a five-course tasting menu and wine pairing - there is something for everyone, topped off with a wide selection of cocktails and mocktails - which can also be found in The Club House Collection cocktail book.

It boasts a beach house giving wellness treatments - with another on the way - as well as a snug for more intimate dining.

It has recently started doing takeaway fish and chips and before Christmas held two brilliant murder mystery evenings, which are hoped to return this year, and there are plans for a jazz Sunday to mark the Queen's Jubilee.

The Club House has also welcomed celebrity chef John Torode as part of ITV's This Morning programme, which didn't quite go without a hitch, but did provide excellent viewing.

Around 160 local people work across the three sites, many of which have grown up visiting the Hive Beach Café for ice creams as children, others have been able to learn and grow with the company before moving on in their careers and some seek to come back when home from university.

As well as the three sites, The Hive Beach Company has a bakery which mainly supplies the two cafes, as well The Club House. It is offering a special Valentine's brownie, which can be ordered here at the online shop.

Karl Hancock, CEO of Nub News said: "We are delighted to have the Hive Beach Company join Dorchester and Bridport Nub News as a sponsor.

"We pride ourselves on promoting and championing local businesses and this West Dorset family business fits in perfectly with this.

"We're looking forward to working with the teams at the three sites."

Steve Attrill said: "We are excited to be a sponsor and very much look forward to working with Nub News."
