A bonfire with some items that should not be burnt had to be put out as the smoke was going over a primary school.

One crew from Bridport was called this morning just before 12noon to the fire in the open near Salway Ash Primary School.

They were met by police who took them to the fire, which was from a controlled burn last night.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "The bonfire contained mixed items including commercial waste, some of which should not be burnt on a bonfire.

"As the smoke from the fire was being carried over the local school and due to undesirable items being burnt, the fire was extinguished.

"The incident was left with the police who will be contacting the environment agency."
