The Allington Hillbillies volunteer to maintain the Woodland Trust's Allington Hill and Allington Parish Council's Cooper's Wood and Field, benefitting both local wildlife and the community by keeping these green spaces open to all.

The group are currently looking to improve these areas for wild pollinators.

Four years ago, 500 ash trees across the sites were lost to Ash Die Back, but since then the volunteers have improved the diversity of the wood by planting cherry, rowen, and dog wood to add to the early spring flowers for pollinators, including bees.

They are now going one step further and aim to flood the woodland with snowdrops, wild daffodils, primroses, wood anemone and introduce more bluebells and wild garlic by collecting local seed.

This will provide a food source for pollinators from mid-February until late April, when the flower meadow will kick in.

To help achieve this, the Allington Hillbillies have been successful in applying for funding through The Wild Isles project, run by the Aviva Community Fund and inspired by David Attenborough's 'Wild Isles' BBC series.

For every £1 donated through their crowdfunding page at https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/pollinatorsparadise, Aviva will give £2 – turning a £10 donation into £30.

The more money raised, the more they help not only honey bees, but all wild pollinators.

The group hope to raise a minimum of £1,500 with the fund stretching to £2,500.
