Proposal to make West Dorset constituency smaller

The West Dorset constituency could be made smaller in changes proposed by the Boundary Commission for England.
The boundary - represented in parliament by MP Chris Loder - to the west and north will stay largely the same, incorporating Lyme Regis, Mosterton and up to Sherborne, but to the east, it is proposed to bring the boundary in and not include Cerne Abbas, Piddletrentide or Piddlehinton. These would be included in the North Dorset boundary, which is represented by MP Simon Hoare.
It also comes further west in the south and does not include Chickerell but does include Upwey.
The Boundary Commission's current review will conclude with a formal report and recommendations in June 2023, which are likely to be implemented.
The aim is to make parliament fairer by giving each MP a roughly similar number of voters.
Scotland and Wales will see the number of MPs cut, while England gains 10 seats overall.
The proposals are currently under public consultation until August 2. Maps and details on how to submit a response are available at bcereviews.org.uk
