There has been an incredible response from local musicians who want to support the people of Ukraine and perform in a charity concert.

A Concert for Ukraine, organised by Chris Deacon, will take place on Friday, March 11 at Bridport Town Hall from 7pm.

He has had such a great number of acts wanting to take part that there may have to be another concert or two.

Chris said: ""Watching what was unfolding in Ukraine was utterly horrific and frightening, the visual reports sickening. I, like most civilians in this country, have never experienced a world war and there appeared from the outset a threat of that changing.

"As a post war child, I learnt a lot about the first and second world wars and played in the bomb sites, not knowing the fear that the people who had lived there endured.

"Having read about all the brilliant practical projects that people were undertaking and thinking, 'that's the kind of positive thing I've done in my younger years but no longer able', inspired me to do something I was capable of, along with the support from so many others that have volunteered their time or talents in support.

"There has been tremendous support already, but I'm facing a difficult decision in selecting those most suitable to squeeze into a limited timeframe for a concert event. It may be that we need a second or third, depending on the support.

"All I can be sure of is that Bridport's generous heart will beat as usual in support of the Ukraine people."

An identical concert may be held on the following Friday on March 18.

The concert is free but attendees are encouraged to donate whatever they feel appropriate.
