New security fencing has been approved for the Grade 2 listed village school site.
Dorset Council has approved a black metal 1.5 metre tall fence with a ball top behind the existing wall at Powerstock along School Hill Road with matching pedestrian and vehicle gates. The school site is the in the centre of the local conservation area.
The proposal will see the removal of the existing chain link fence and repairs to the stone wall.
During the course of the application, the height of the fencing was reduced from the originally proposed 2m and the style changed from bow top railings to the now proposed manor ball top style, following the assessment of the council's conservation officer.
The original building was constructed around 1876 but badly damaged in a fire in 2011 and then rebuilt and extended. It has a playground to the south of the original building which is enclosed by a low stone wall and fence.
Papers with the application say that by modern standards security could be improved and that the existing fence is dilapidated and an eyesore.
