It's now been more than two months since 2020 Skate and Ride opened for the first time, and its proving to be a much-loved, much-needed facility.

The indoor skate park, at Gore Cross Business Park in Bridport, was developed by Rob Ridge and the team at the former The Trick Factory skate park at a unit at St Michael's Trading Estate which had to close in May 2016.

They found the current building in January this year and starting building in February in the hopes of opening sometime in April to coincide with four years after The Trick Factory closed.

However, coronavirus hit and lockdown put the brakes on building work, with only one person being able to go up at a time to continue the works.

Despite coronavirus, 2020 Skate and Ride opened on August 1 and is going into its third month.

Rob said: "We had a really busy first month with the novelty, newness and interest and now the weather is changing, it's getting dark and schools have gone back, the place is in much demand.

"When we did the first two months, we did a Tuesday morning juniors club, but that has transferred into a preschool now and we have really young pre-schoolers."

There is also a café area at 2020 Skate and Ride which serves hot and cold drinks.

Rob added: "It's always nice when someone comes up for the first time or a parent comes in and says, 'they came for the first time and really loved it'.

"It's nice for parents that we have a supervised, enclosed area in a friendly, controlled environment."

The facility is open 3.30pm to 9pm, Tuesday to Friday – and 9am to 12noon on Tuesday mornings – 9am to 7pm on Saturdays and 12noon to 6pm on Sundays.

Rob said: "We might review it [opening hours] when the clocks go back. If the demand increases, which we think it will, we will try and open for more hours."

Bookings for hourly sessions can be made at 2020 Skate and Ride's Facebook page
