Hundreds of students enjoyed the return of live theatre when a touring company visited the Sir John Colfox Academy.

The Handlebards touring theatre gave a performance of Macbeth

Lucy Wright, head of English at Colfox, said: "It was fantastic to see students enjoying the play. It was an enriching experience; students gained a lot from seeing Shakespeare brought to life in front of them and experiencing the play as he intended.

"We all enjoyed it and applauded the theatre company, The Handlebards for giving us such a wonderful performance - it was great to be able to enjoy live theatre again."

More than 150 students in Year 10 and 11 saw the performance. They are studying the play as part of their English Literature GCSE. After the show they quizzed the cast about the play and what it is like to perform, during a live question and answer session.

The Handlebards are a touring company of cycling Shakespearean actors, who carry their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes.
