Budding young writers will be celebrating the launch of their creative writing anthology next month.

Students from the Sir John Colfox Academy will officially launch Spiralling: A Slow Descent into Madness at The Book Shop, South Street, on Thursday, September 15 at 6pm.

The anthology is the culmination of a series of creative writing workshops with Year 9 pupils by children's charity The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares.

The anthology is published by the charity's own imprint, with a foreword by award-winning author, Nathan Filer.

Janis Lane, The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares' creative learning manager, said: "These young Colfox writers showed fantastic commitment to the project, from creative process to crafting their words to taking great care in choosing the title for the anthology.

"Their engagement and enthusiasm have been a delight to witness, not to mention the terrific stories I have had the pleasure of reading.

"Spiralling is another example of the importance and value of such enrichment to nurture future generations of creative thinkers.

"All credit and thanks to Sir John Colfox headteacher Adam Shelley for also recognising this, and to literacy co-ordinator Liz Launder for being the liaison throughout."

Spiralling: A Slow Descent into Madness is the charity's second publication, following the inaugural anthology, I Have a Dream, written by young writers from Beaminster School and published in July. A poetry anthology written by all pupils from Salway Ash Primary School is currently in production.

The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares was founded by film producer Nick Goldsmith. The ethos is to offer child-led creative writing workshops, to listen to young people aged seven to 18 and learn from them. By offering small group mentoring, children are given time and space to explore creative process. The charity focuses on under-resourced children, providing unique outcomes and purposes to their writing.

The new book will be available from The Book Shop in South Street and Little Toller Books in Beaminster, as well as online at thebankofdreamsandnightmares.org/shop
