Bridport was bustling in the glorious spring weather on Saturday, as the town hosted its annual Community Charter Fair.

The event opened with maypole dancing by the Lyric School of Dancing and the crowing of the May Queen at Millennium Green, where entertainment continued throughout the day.

Other performances came from Bridport Young Performers, Bridport Musical Theatre, Wyld Morris, Local Vocal and many others.

Musical entertainment was also held at Bucky Doo Square due to the large amount of interest in this year's event. There was also face painting and children's craft activities with Oops Wow Messy Art, and a busy plant swap was also held in the nearby Community Shed.

Almost 50 community groups took part in the Community Charter Fair, manning stalls to raise funds and many attracting new volunteers on the day.

The day also saw two annual awards for outstanding service to the community presented by the Deputy Mayor of Bridport, Cllr Ian Bark.

The Above and Beyond Award went to Dr Jo Millar for her work with the Living Tree Cancer Support Group, whilst the Charter Fair Award went to Jim and Jenny Tigg for organising and providing support for refugees in the community.

Cllr Bark spoke about the importance of community, and later said: "Congratulations on another roaring success. The Community Charter Fair was a triumph and everyone I have spoken to had nothing but positive things to say about it."

Bridport Community Charter Fair is a partnership between the Charter Fair, Community Fair, Love Your Local Market, and Bridport Town Council.

Chair of the organising committee, Arthur Woodgate, emphasised the importance of the Town Council's involvement, singling out Claire Peters-Way, Terri Foxwell, Jill Beed, and Daryl Chambers and his team for their hard work.

"Without them, there simply wouldn't be a Community Charter Fair," he said.
