Artists have been popping up around Bridport as part of The Lyric Theatre's latest community arts project.
Right Up Your Street has launched in Bridport, collecting stories about how lockdown has been for people in Bridport.
The Lyric's latest community project, while the theatre remains closed for performances, supports Bridport Rights Respecting Town and has been possible thanks to funding from The Coronavirus Support Fund.
Running until the end of June, Right Up Your Street aims to find out through various creative outlets how lockdown has been for us as a community and individually.
Free music, puppets, art, film and performance 'happenings' have been bursting out of the Lyric Art Van with Bridport artists Kate Genevieve, Tom Hughes, Angie Porter, Jane Silver Corren and Marina Renee-Cemmick with Sophia Blee hosting events in various locations.
Tom Hughes kicked off the pop-ups with 'See What You Say Cinema', live streaming projections created from community contributions via the Lyric's Facebook page onto The Woodman pub and The Chapel in the Garden.
Hundreds of suggestions were created into images and projected, with some remembering Bridport's well-loved characters who have died in the last year. The videos and photos are now available to see on The Lyric's Facebook page. Tom's See What You Say Cinema continues on June 7, 9 and 10.
Dressed as an array of vegetables, Jane Silver Corren has popped up across Bridport and West Bay in the Salad Ballad Bus, writing songs with onlookers about their experiences of lockdown.
This week, Angie Porter's pop up, Pressing Paws, will be out and about in which she becomes the world's first street portrait artist for dogs. People with their dogs/pets can book a time slot with Angie on the day and will receive a free portrait. Sitters will be given the opportunity to share stories about their experiences with their pets during lockdown.
Angie will be at St Mary's Playing Field from 10am on Thursday, Londis in Skilling from 10am on Friday and Bucky Doo Square from 10am on Saturday.
From June 14, Kate Genevieve becomes The Medicine Doctor, inviting us to dream big, aim high and complete a task in a pop-up filled with hope and positivity that considers the things we have to look forward to as lockdown ends.
Kate will be at the Co-op from 10am on June 15, in Morrisons car park in the morning on June 15, in South Street and West Street during the morning of June 16 and in St Michael's Lane in the afternoon, and at St Swithun's food glut stall on June 17 from 10am to 12noon, visiting Court Orchard in the afternoon.
Finally, from June 21, Marina Renee-Cemmick and Sophia Blee wrap up the project by turning the Art Van into a 'Tinkerers' Cabinet of Curiosities'. They will be creating puppets and characters from found materials and your stories, especially based on any objects that you may be willing to bring and share with them that you have used, come across, or that has been a part of your past year. The object - 15cm or smaller - will need to be something that you don't mind donating to the artwork.
They will be in Court Orchard on June 22 and 21 with spontaneous pop-ups on June 24 and 25.
Check dates, times and locations for all pop-up's here as well as The Lyric Theatre's social media pages.
Alongside the pop-ups, you can also take part from home. The lyric invites people to have a go at writing a rhyme, limerick or haiku based on your lockdown experiences. Your artistic contributions will form part of exhibitions, street art and presentations over the coming year. Post them on Facebook tagging The Lyric Theatre, and/or email them to [email protected]
