Cases of coronavirus have been reported at three west Dorset schools.

The Sir John Colfox Academy and Woodroffe School have had at least one student test positive for coronavirus. Mountjoy School also had a confirmed case but it is not sure whether they were a student, teacher or member of staff.

A statement on Mountjoy School's website said: "We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

"We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health Dorset and Dorset council.

"All close contacts of the confirmed case have been identified and asked to self-isolate. The person who has tested positive was last in school on Wednesday, November 25 and only one class group has been in contact.

"Unless you have been specifically notified that your child is a close contact, you do not need to take any further action at this stage."

At Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, two students tested positive for Covid-19, but one had their result reversed following a 'lab error'.

In a letter sent home to parents today (Friday) it was announced that one Year 8 student and another in Year 11 tested positive. However, it was then revealed the Year 11 student actually tested negative. A subsequent letter was sent to parents following the negative test results.

The Sir John Colfox Academy had a positive case following the autumn half-term.

In a letter home to parents on November 2, headteacher Adam Shelley said: "I wanted to update you to say that we have had a positive Covid case reported to us over the half-term break.

"In this case, all actions have been taken to ensure that the school remains safe. As ever, the safety of the school community is my priority.

"Your support is appreciated and school is still the best place for students to learn."
